Flying high with an unbeaten streak of eight matches that included two wins and six draws, Orissa came crashing down to the ground, suffering an innings and 123-run defeat at the hands of Bihar on the second day of their three-day Ranji Trophy East Zone match at Khalikote College Ground in Berhampur today.
This was the 51st defeat in 82 Ranji Trophy matches for Orissa and 21st loss in 27 matches against Bihar. Put into bat, Bihar made 251 with the help of a half-century each by Shyamlal Roy and Sashi Nair. For Orissa, Asjit Jayaprakasham bagged four wickets for 72 runs, while captain Paramjit Singh and Somnath Sahoo picked up three and two wickets respectively.
In reply, Orissa batsmen made meek surrender, getting all out for a paltry 64 in the first innings. Forced to follow on after conceding a lead of 187 runs, the hosts were again bundled out for 64 in the second essay. Only two Orissa batsmen _ Harmohan Praharaj and Asjit Jayaprakasham in the first and second innings respectively _ were able to score in double digits.
